The Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, teaches that happiness is not something ready-made — it comes from your own actions. Despite losing his homeland and living in exile since 1959, he continues to radiate warmth, peace, and joy. For him, happiness doesn’t depend on material wealth or perfect circumstances. Instead, it grows from inner peace, compassion, and kindness.
He often says that the purpose of life is to be happy — not in a selfish way, but through caring for others. By practicing forgiveness, patience, and mindfulness, he believes we can reduce suffering and find true, lasting happiness.
One of his core messages is simple but powerful: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”
The Dalai Lama’s life is a living example that happiness is not about what happens to us — it’s about how we respond, and how much love we bring into the world.
